We checked into the Element Times Square during its first week of occupancy, timed meaningfully during a massive storm. As part of Starwood, the Element is a ‘vision of the Westin’ that is hyper-conscientiously green, LEED certified, and so minimalist in its conservation that it was almost medical. We were impressed by the breezy cleanliness of the room and lobby and the extremely reasonable rates, but weren’t as thrilled about the location near the hectic Port Authority.

Cipriani Dolci – Grand Central Station: We’re deeply smitten with Grand Central Station and the gorgeous Main Concourse. Our favorite stops at GC include the Transit Museum Store and the subterranean mezzanine food hall, but our top scenario to wind away an hour is over a martini (Ketel, twist) at this lovely bar overlooking an afternoon’s worth of transportation logistics.
